Regeneration:
No Longer Bound deals with addiction by focusing the addict upon a complete change in lifestyle. This is accomplished through a spiritual approach. It is not enough for the addict to return to the state of mind he was in prior to his addiction. That was not a happy, peaceful state for most people. They did not have the right purpose, the right values, or the right goals. If they had, they would not have medicated themselves with chemicals.
The addict needs the medical program and the psychological program, but he has a greater need for something more. He needs the Lord to work in his life to change his lifestyle. That is available to him only in a Christian Regeneration program. Unless the addict understands what chemicals do to him, he may be reluctant to submit to the Lord and allow Him to work in his life. When he studies his past behavior, he is able to see a pattern or cycle in which he has repeated the same reactions over and over. When he sees this clearly, it becomes obvious that he has a lifestyle problem. But if the addict is shown his lifestyle problem without being shown a solution, he would be better off not knowing the problem. His frustration would lead him to deal with the problem as he always has, through medication with chemicals, preferably, the drug of his choice.
It usually takes about thirty days for the addict to acquire a clear head. Unfortunately, many rehabilitation programs stop at thirty days, but that is nothing more than returning the addict to his former state. When the addict has become clean and sober, he has not crossed the finish line, he has merely approached the starting line. He is now ready to start the race, he is now open to having God begin His work.
